After experiencing my first yoga class, over 20 years ago, I was completely hooked and my enthusiasm for yoga has only grown since then! I went on to train and qualify as a yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga (3 year Diploma Course), studied Mediation and Pranayama (yoga breathing) and more recently qualified to teach the research based Yoga For Healthy Lower Backs course.
Yoga can offer us so much! Through asana (yoga postures) we improve our posture, flexibility and gain physical strength and stamina as well as releasing muscle tension. Releasing tension in our bodies is a vital stage in the process of releasing mental tension. Learning to relax is an important part of a yoga class and it is amazing how after a few classes we begin to find it so easy to relax on the floor with just a yoga mat to support our bodies!
Yoga has been invaluable in helping me overcome both physical and emotional issues in my life and I do not know where I would have been without it. I am enthusiastic to share what I have learned throughout my yoga journey.
People often say to me that they could not do yoga because they are not flexible enough. Please do not allow any concerns about lack of flexibility or other physical issues put you off learning about yoga. Yoga will help you gradually to become more flexible, to feel stronger and to move more easily. If you have more serious health issues that you think might affect your ability to take part in a yoga class please speak to me, it is part of my job to do my best to adapt the class to suit your needs.
